Maria Waggoner

I am an Assistant Professor at Purdue University in their Philosophy Department, receiving my PhD in Philosophy-Neuroscience-Psychology from Washington University in St. Louis in 2023.

My research looks at the ways in which virtues can backfire, resulting in morally inappropriate behaviors, perceptions, and emotional responses. I also work on the nature of moral understanding and its connection to virtue, and the relationship between understanding and religious faith.

I am married to fellow philosopher, Adam Waggoner, and we are the proud parents of our toddler son, Athanasius.
